Project Rachel is the healing ministry of the Catholic Church which ministers to those who are suffering from the effects of abortion. Since the 1973 Supreme Court decision, Roe v. Wade, more than 36 million legal abortions have been performed in the United States. Men, as well as women, can suffer from severe long-lasting emotional, psychological and spiritual trauma due to their involvement in the abortion. Symptoms can include low self-esteem, grief, depression, sleep disorders, addictive behaviors, guilt, anger, difficulty in bonding and unusual reactions to dates or other "triggers" related to the tragic event. There is HOPE for these victims of abortion!
Through a network of professionals, counselors, priests, those experiencing post-abortion trauma can receive one-on-one spiritual and psychological guidance. Founded in 1984, its name comes from the Old Testament Scripture in Jeremiah 31:15-17. Project Rachel ministries are located in 140 Catholic dioceses and in other dioceses in other countries. In addition to individualized counseling, Project Rachel also offers support groups and retreats.
Saint Peter's Parish supports Project Rachel in a variety of ways including referrals, bulletin announcements, financial donations, and distribution of Project Rachel materials.
