Liturgy
Liturgy is at the heart of parish life. We answer the call to love God through prayer and worship. We welcome anyone who wishes to join our parish family when we gather for worship. The schedule for Mass times is contained in this Web site. If you are a Saint Peter's parishioner, we invite you to consider one of the many liturgical ministries active in our parish.Altar Care Ministry
If you would like to work "behind the scenes" to help prepare the worship area for the celebration of Mass and other liturgies, this ministry is for you. You can serve as a sacristan, help with the laundering of altar linens or albs, or assist in the creation of baptismal garments. Both men and women are welcome to participate. For more information, call Andrea Schmitt at 301-774-1894.Altar Servers
Boys and girls, from fifth grade through high school, are encouraged to volunteer for the very important ministry of assisting the priest and deacon at the altar. Training is provided, and volunteers are signed up every summer. For more information, call Jean and Steve Rinaldi at 301-774-6308.Art and Environment
Do you have a flair for flowers, plants, and decorating? Consider offering those skills for the glory of God's house. The Art and Environment Ministry takes care of the flowers and plants in the church throughout the year and is involved in the special decorating that takes place at Christmas and Easter. To volunteer, call Germaine Klang at 301–460-0367.Children's Liturgy of the Word
Saint Peter's Parish is fortunate to offer Children's Liturgy of the Word every week at both the 5 p.m. Mass on Saturday and the 9 a.m. Mass on Sunday. During the Liturgy of the Word, children from kindergarten through fourth grade gather in the Commons area where an adult leader shares the Scripture readings with them on a level appropriate to the children's age. We always need more adults and teens to share the work of this exciting ministry. Training and resource material are provided. To volunteer, call Virginia Riley at 240-644-3430 or Jackie Riedford at 301-869-0203.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the clergy in the distribution of Communion at Mass. They also bring the Lord's eucharistic presence to patients at Montgomery General Hospital and several specialized care facilities. Visits to the homebound are arranged as needed. Candidates for this ministry must be nominated by clergy, staff, or other parishioners. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age; fully initiated (i.e., have received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist); leading a life of faith in harmony with this ministry; in good standing under Canon Law (e.g., not in an irregular marriage); and currently involved in some other aspect of parish life. The most important qualification is a special love for the Eucharist.Lectors
Lectors proclaim the Scripture readings at Mass and other liturgies. If you have a love for God’s Word, the ability to proclaim it effectively, a commitment to this ministry, and are a confirmed Catholic, consider volunteering for this essential liturgical ministry. Training is provided once a year. Watch the bulletin for the date and time. For more information, call Liz Haggerty at 301-570-5994.Music Ministries

The ushers, or ministers of hospitality, help to create a welcoming environment for worship. Ushers greet the people, extend hospitality to all who come to our parish, and help the Mass flow smoothly so that we can all pray reverently. We encourage men and women of all ages to consider taking part in this vital service. For more information, call Don Hemke at 301-774-7511.
